LINE PLAY - Our Avatar World 10.1.0.0

Illusions Within Illusions

It appears that I've lived to see this one too. You see, when it comes to the subject of digital escapism, people often fall into one of the two categories: social media and MMORPG's. I'm not sure which of the two is more destructive to one's psyche, but like is the case with fats and carbs, why not PLAY the idiot and go with both? In LINE PLAY you, sort of, do just that.

You can choose between being a boy, a girl, or a furry of some kind. Gender fluid wrecks can also customize their appearance to be as hermaphroditic as possible. You get issued a mostly empty house, much like in any Communist utopia, and then you're set loose to roam around the different public spaces as well as to visit the dwellings of random users.

You can use the chat wherever you are, although people seem to be very laconic. To be honest, I'm not sure If I've met any users at all. Maybe most characters are bots, and the frequent connection issues do not occur because of LINE's busy servers, but as part of a scam to make you think this app is worth a damn.

It could be, though. I mean, you do get your Facebook-lookalike page, where you can add snapshots of your character in various poses, along with caption text. Users visiting your page can react to these posts, comment and even share.

By completing quests, which revolve around tapping on various objects when needed, playing games, and putting in your parents' hard earned cash you will be able to purchase decorations, clothes and even another floor to your house. You don't just have to be active on the virtual-virtual social network in LINE PLAY. You also need to be presentable. An empty room will not keep guests for too long, yet, I can't tell why you would want them to stay unless you're playing the role of a narcissist.

The avatar models are cute in general. That doesn't mean you can't create some unappealing visages, but be advised. An ugly avatar is as repulsive in a game just as it were in the real world. I remember when I was toying with the character creation feature of Anarchy Online ages ago. I created a fat slob, and nobody wanted me in their party because of it. That was a rough lesson.

Final Thoughts

Out of all the pointless MMO's out there, LINE PLAY is probably the most pointless of all. There are no meaningful tasks in the game and, consequently, the only character progression thereof is exclusively cosmetic. The server load problems add to this. So I wouldn't recommend LINE PLAY to most people unless they really enjoy the cosmetic enhancement part of MMO's.
